Taking a Back Seat

What took a back seat this week you might ask? Unfortunately it was my fitness and healthy eating goals. I had a work trip to Nashville, and let’s just say that I got my fill of all Nashville had to offer. I had some amazing meals – Adele’s was my favorite – and lots and lots of alcohol. I’m a big country music fan so I thoroughly enjoyed the live music scene…maybe a little too much. :(

Grilled skirt steak, roasted poblanos, shallots, shaved asparagus - SO GOOD!

I did get in a run in Nashville and actually ran/walked for a little over 5 miles. It was probably one of the highlights of my trip because I was able to explore the city on foot and saw a lot of what Nashville had to offer.

All the pretty places in Nashville!

All the pretty places in Nashville!

I set a few goals for myself for last week, and here’s how I did with them:

  • 1.) Go for a run in Nashville.  I knew I’d be busy once I got there so I went for a run RIGHT AFTER I checked into my hotel. It was weird not knowing the area, but I made it through.
  • 2.) Run three times this week (this will finish my C25K program).  Missed this one this week. I only ran twice – once in Nashville, and once for my 5K – FULL RECAP TO FOLLOW.
  • 3.) Workout (something other than running) two times this week. Beeeeeep. Nope. With my work conference I didn’t get it done. :( I’ll be adding that as a goal for this week though!
  • 4.) Eat one “clean eating” meal. To be honest, I forgot all about this goal. One of my meals in Nashville was salmon, steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans – this counts, right?
  • 5.) Run the Ferocious 5K in Elgin on Sunday, without walking, in under 40 minutes. Done and done! Met both of my goals – can’t wait to tell you all about it in my next post!

So we can clearly see that my goals need a bit of work. I’m in town all week so I’m hoping I can get myself back on schedule. Here are my goals for the coming week.

1.) Go for a run on a new trail.  Everytime I run, I always leave out my front door and head out in the same direction. After 8 weeks, it’s starting to get a little boring. Time for me to venture out of my comfort zone a bit.

2.) Run three times this week.  C25K is over – and I’m a graduate! – but I still need to keep up with my runs.

3.) Workout (something other than running) two times this week. I missed this goal last week, but I’m back in town and am excited on doing some new workouts.

4.) Eat one “clean eating” meal. I forgot about this goal last week, but I’ve been eyeing this shrimp salad recipe and hope to make it this week.

5.) Find another race to run. Mother’s Day is this weekend and I’d love to run another race this weekend or next. I was all signed up for a race on 5/14, but my son’s school is having a Spring Concert that night so I’ll be there instead.

Wish me luck on these goals this week!

Oh, and it probably doesn’t have to be said, but with my excessive out-of-town eating and drinking, I did not lose any weight this week and I gained 1.3 pounds, bringing me back to 177.2. But it could’ve been a WHOLE LOT WORSE.
